NYCC '15: What's Happening With Resident Evil, Mega Man and Street Fighter V

By Derek Trum

20151008_182956_resizedThe World of Capcom panel was held Thursday night at the New York Comic Con. The panel was completely filled up with diehard Capcom fans. The panel featured announcements for fan favorite franchises, Resident Evil, Mega Man, and Street Fighter.

Resident Evil

The show started off with a trailer for the HD remake of Resident Evil 0. Similar to the HD remake of Resident Evil, RE 0 will feature completely enhanced visuals. They have gone through the original graphics and updated them with high resolution textures. The game will also support 1080p. The sound effects have been totally remastered and will support 5.1 surround sound.

Next was the trailer for "Wesker Mode". This mode will be unlocked upon finishing the game. In this mode you take control of Uroboros-Enhanced Albert Wesker and a mind-controlled Rebecca. you will be able to run through the game at a much faster speed and attack your enemies with high-powered eye beams.

Capcom also announced a special disk edition of the game that will also feature the HD remake of Resident Evil. "Resident Evil: Origins" will hit store shelves January 2016. The pre-order dlc for the disc will include a nurse costume for Rebecca and "Cody" inspired costume for Billy.

Umbrella CORPS

The next expansion of the Resident Evil universe was introduced next, Umbrella CORPS. The game was described as a fast-paced competitive shooter set in the Resident Evil Universe. A trailer was shown that really got the crowd excited. The gameplay showed off tactics that included, close combat fighting, using tactical cover, and zombie manipulation. All weekend the game will be playable at the Capcom booth. You can take part in 3 vs 3 team deathmatches. They are also giving away a limited Umbrella pin for all those who try the demo. The game will be available for digital download for the PS4 in early 2016.

Mega Man

The Mega Man Legacy collection was featured next. The release collects the original 6 Mega Man games that were originally released for the NES. The game features 8-bit sprites in HD resolution. New to collection will be a challenge mode, and full leadership support with replays. Museum mode was also touched upon. The development team went really deep to find a ton of material to put on display. The museum will give you a really cool look back through the history of Mega Man. The game was newly developed with the Eclipse Engine. With this engine they were able to faithfully recreate each game so that they play exactly as the original NES games. Another cool feature that was shown off was the newly designed box art for each game. The covers were done by UDON.

Street Fighter 5

Street Fighter 5 hit the screen next to large round of applause. A trailer was shown off that featured a mix of gameplay from the characters who were previously announced. SF5 is going out of their way to change how DLC works for fighting games. Unlike previous games where you have you have to pay for roster updates and costumes, SF5 will make all DLC available by playing through the game. This will also include character balancing updates. This is great news for those who were frustrated with Capcom constantly releasing new versions of Street Fighter. The SF5 portion of the show was closed out with a trailer for new character, Laura. Laura represents Brazil, and is the first fighter in the series to use Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Gameplay also showed her using electricity akin to Blanka. Laura will be playable at the Capcom booth all weekend. There are three character left to be announced. Two will be all-new characters, while the third will be a classic fighter.

At the end of the panel a big reveal came that Street Fighter was finally being released by Funko Pop. This got a huge reaction from the crowd. The initial release will see Ryu, Chun-Li, Ken, Dan, Blanca, M.Bison, Guile, Cammy, Balrog, Sagat, Crimson Viper, El Fuerte, and Seth. Figures will be hitting stores in early 2016.
