Resident Evil 2's Demo Got Gore Censored in Japan
It appears Capcom's new version of Resident Evil 2 was a bit too bloody for Japanese audiences, as the game received some censorship. The news was broken by Tristan Cooper, the Managing Editor at Dorkly, who posted some comparisons on Twitter as to what American audience saw compared to what the Japanese audience saw. Below you can see the post, which shows the scene where Leon finds a cop in the west hallway with his face slashed open, and the differences between the two. WARNING: There is digital gore here, so viewer beware.
It's a weird circumstance, but at the same time kind of reasonable since the demo is free to the public to download and not everyone may be into that kind of imagery in their game. Whereas when you purchase the game, you know what you're getting and there's no reason to restrict it. Even weirder, there's a "Z Version" coming out in Japan that is supposed to be even worse than what we're seeing in the game now, which makes us wonder just how gory the new Resident Evil 2 can get. We'll all learn together when the game launches on January 25th.
