What Rime's Launch Trailer Says About Us As Gamers

rime

Grey Box and Tequila Works' Rime has launched, and with the release came a shiny new launch trailer. The game follows in the indie dev tradition of stripped-down, geometrically motivated, and highly stylized indie games. You may think that's an oddly specific kind of game category, but there are so many indie titles that fit with that aesthetic.

And even in 2017, we still aren't tired of it.

Furthermore, we're more willing than ever to have protagonists that don't quite look…the same. You know, that scruffy-looking white guy with brown hair and a square jaw that looks like every other game protagonist ever.

But we're only free of that protag in our indie games.

And it doesn't even matter, because in the end, Rime is about the joy of exploration and adventure, and tearing around the Mediterranean coast.

The trailer's description reads, in full:

The time has finally come to set sail for the shores of RiME's mystical island, available May 26!

Discover yourself in RiME, a single-player puzzle adventure experienced through the eyes of a young boy who awakens on a mysterious island after shipwrecking off its coast. Players must navigate the island's secrets by making use of light, sound, perspective and even time. Inspired by the rugged, sunbaked terrain of the Mediterranean coast, RiME paints its breathtaking world with a fusion of vibrant colors and moving musical undertones to set the stage for the deeply personal, emotional journey that awaits within.

You can watch the launch trailer below. Or check out the game's Dev Diaries, including the latest from earlier this month. Rime is out now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
