I Am Setsuna On Switch Is Getting A Battle Arena
Because why be content with just a regular old JRPG like I Am Setsuna, no we need to have a battle arena as well. Called the Temporal Battle Arena, this new feature is being added to I Am Setsuna on the Switch soon, and will allow you to compete using your party to earn rewards and possibly new characters.
It is a party-on-party colosseum mode that allows you to download other player's party data to fight them in a virtual showdown. So PVP without actually needing another active player.
This new addition to I Am Setsuna will be an exclusive for the Switch version of the game and will be a free update coming soon.
Even for a free DLC, it's rather bare-bones. Simple turn-based combat with NPC versions of another player's party. And yeah, you can earn rewards including level bonuses, but it all just seems a bit too little.
The game also just launched with the Switch not even two weeks ago. Giving us a free DLC at this point that's a rather poorly constructed PvP substitute its a bit of a let-down. I don't imagine I'll ever bother with the Temporal Battle Arena. There are far more interesting uses of my time in Setsuna.
It's also a bit of a weird addition to a game that was heralded as a return to the golden age of JRPGs. This just feels so unpolished and seems completely out of Setsuna's wheelhouse. All I can think to ask is, "why?" Why bother with this? And why now?
No date was given for the update but it'll likely be out within the next month. Hopefully there's a bit more to this DLC than what we've seen, but as it stands, I'm glad it's free. I wouldn't bother to spend money on this one.
