Unboxing The Funko Smugglers Bounty Star Wars Rebels Box…SPOILERS
As a big fan of Star Wars Rebels, I was pretty excited when it was announced that the March Funko Smugglers Bounty box would be Rebels themed. Rebels gets the short-shrift in the merchandise category as far as Star Wars properties go, and to get an entire box dedicated to the show sounded like a perfect way to correct that. Star Wars Rebels for those that do not know is the current animated series on Disney XD that takes place in the time between Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One. Look closely at Rogue One and you will see and hear Rebels easter eggs all over the place. Ezra, Kanan, Hera, Zeb, Sabine, and droid Chopper are early members of what becomes the Rebellion, and old favorites from the prequels and such make appearances as well. Funko has already released a Pop for each member of the Ghost crew, so lets take a look and see who they included inside the box shall we?
So, if you watched the video you can see that the show is well-represented here. First you have the patch and pin, with the muscle of the group Zeb featured on the patch and Mandalorian Sabine on the pin. They always knock the patch and pin out of the park, and these are no different.
Next we have the shirt. The last box had an awesome pair of socks in it, and I was secretly hoping that this would would as well, but the shirt is so awesome I will forgive them. Featuring the entire Ghost crew in Pop form and with an awesome color scheme, this is probably the best shirt they have done in these boxes. As I said in the video, I love that Hera is here, she has so little merchandise that anytime I can get my hands on items featuring her I will jump at the chance.
My least favorite item in this months box is the Hikari Chopper figure. I just do not see the appeal of these at all. Chopper will come in five random colors in these boxes: gold (which I got), black, red, orange, and clear. One of them is a rare, but I am unclear as to which one. Fun for some I am sure, but I am indifferent.
Lastly we got the Pops, which were announced ahead of time. First we got a Captain Rex in his Old Rex look from Rebels in his familiar clone gear and wielding his two blasters. I love the character design of Old Rex (and I do a terrible impression of him on my Star Wars Rebels Podcast Hangin With Team Kanan) and they really nailed this one.Perfect pose, perfect paint aps, this is a great Pop. The main event however is the Darth Maul Pop included here, again in his Rebels look. The intricate paint aps on his body tattoos and his face are amazing, and I love his little robot legs! This becomes an instant favorite Star Wars Pop ever made.
Overall I was hoping for a bit more from this box, but the Pops and shirt alone would have made me buy this one anyway. The next box will be the 40th Anniversary of A New Hope box, so that is sure to be one to get. You can order one right now as a matter of fact here.
