Rise of the Tomb Raider Director Says Game Is Three Times Bigger Than Predecessor
I don't seem to remember Tomb Raider (2013) being that small. The island it took place on felt fairly large and I appreciated the depth and detail of the place.
With that said, it seems that Crystal Dynamics have seen fit to make the world even bigger. Speaking to Gaming Bolt, game director Brian Horton revealed that the game will be three times the size of the last one and will feature a lot of new stuff:
Besides Lara's story which is really exciting, we're really thrilled to talk about the new scale that we have for Rise of the Tomb Raider. Our exploration spaces are 3 times larger than they were in the last game and our tombs are much bigger. And we're employing what we call "A Nested Puzzle Approach" that means there are multiple puzzles that all work together to solve 1 big puzzle. We also introduced new traversal mechanics, like Lara can climb trees and can swim underwater and can use that not only for traversal but as a way too subtly approach an enemy and take them out from above or from below.
I'm not sure I need a humongous map to enjoy a good Tomb Raider game, I'd certainly prefer density and detail, but I trust this developer to make an interesting environment. It's where the first excelled and hopefully they will keep that up.
