Ubisoft Reverses Rainbow Six Siege Censorship Decision

Earlier this month we talked about how Ubisoft was going to roll out updates to Rainbow Six Siege that would take out specific imagery from the game. The move was being done in order to make the game friendlier to countries like China where their games board wouldn't approve it without items they viewed as suggestive and controversial being removed. Seemed like a steady plan, right? Take out a couple things that have no bearing on the gameplay to get a bigger playerbase. However, the community voiced outrage over changed like the one below being added, including posting trash reviews as part of their objections to the changes.

The move has since forced Ubisoft to announce that they're rolling back those changes and reverting Rainbow Six Siege back to the way the game used to look in all of its current regions. While we support not allowing censorship in games after they've been created a certain way, it wasn't as if anything they took out was taboo or terrible. Keep in mind, these changes were aesthetic only, and were designed to get the game into other countries that have a more conservative view, and had no bearing on the gameplay at all. We're guessing Ubisoft will continue to make a variation that will be released in those countries only while the original is restored. On the bright side, we get to keep the neon pole dancer.
