Worlds XXVI: The Story So Far – "Magic: The Gathering"
Hello, loyal readers! Today, February 16th, 2020, marks the final day for the 26th Magic: The Gathering World Championships! Before I go into any coverage of the final, momentous day of this prestigious tournament, I want to go over what has transpired over the last two days thereof.
Day One
To start, Day One saw the sixteen professional Magic players duke it out in the Theros: Beyond Death Draft format in order to determine brackets. In these games we saw some of the best players get knocked down a peg – some of the winners of these games, however, got defeated and eliminated from Day Two play, while some of those players who were less lucky with their drafts have already managed to make Day Two. Players like Autumn Burchett and Chris Kvartek stood out as major contenders for Day Two, while the likes of both Andrea Mengucci and (now soon-to-be-former reigning Magic World Champion) Javier Dominguez were knocked out of the tournament at the end of Day One. You can tell that this tournament is cutthroat when the World Champ has been eliminated as early as this.
From the press release that we at Bleeding Cool received:
Advance to Top 8
Márcio Carvalho
Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa
Eli Loveman
Seth Manfield
Advance to Play-In

Day Two
Day Two saw the likes of Autumn Burchett and Chris Kvartek taken down in battle! Players like Seth Manfield, hopeful for a second World Championship victory, and Gabriel Nassif, a player who is legendary for players like me (having gotten his deck from Onslaught/Mirrodin Standard immortalized by the World Championship decks of the time) managed to get by into the Lower Brackets of the results of Day Two, while Márcio Carvalho and Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa make up the ever-powerful Upper Bracket.
Day Two brought the competition down from twelve remaining players to a mere four, and the Top Four players are geared to play today. The victor, at this time, is truly anyone's guess.
Congratulations to those who qualified for the semifinals of Magic: The Gathering Worlds XXVI! For those reading at home, you can find the final matches over at http://twitch.tv/magic, or on http://magic.gg.
