Kickstart The Capcom-Endorsed, Live Action Street Fighter Series

Street Fighter fans are probably a little bit worried when their beloved franchise and the words 'live-action' are mentioned in the same sentence. While the first adaption of the movie did leave us some great YouTube gems, some might have felt it was somewhat a betrayal of the video games.

But it was never going to be long until fans made a 'realistic' 'gritty' and 'dark' short film out of the franchise. We'd already seen this with Mortal Kombat and Dragon Ball Z.

So, around 3 years ago, a short fan film was released called Street Fighter Legacy, and it looked a little something like this.

While I certainly didn't see any streets, per se, there were definitely fighters in that clip.

Now, the same people are trying to Kickstart a web-cum-TV series called Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist. They've got Capcom's approval, but not financial backing, so Joey Ansah and Christian Howard are asking for an ambitious £625,000 – with just over 24 days to go.

Ansah says on the Kickstarter page:

We have had other offers of significant finance from the 'movie industry' but this has come with 'strings attached' which would compromise the creative vision I have for 'Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist': to give YOU the fans the Street Fighter movie you've always wanted. That's not how I, or any of my team, roll!

If you've been saying for years that Street Fighter deserves a live action adaption made by people who actually care, go over to their page and put your money where your mouth is.

I'd say that the action scene in their short pilot looked pretty decent and was mostly intelligible. Given a decent VFX budget, they might actually get something good out of this.

As for their financial goal… well, I wish them luck.
