The Last Guardian Is Still Coming, But 'Under Completely New Conditions'

The Last Guardian has garnered a sort of mythical reputation. It's up there with Half-Life 3 as games with fable like qualities that fans don't expect to ever actually see. It was announced in 2009 at E3 by Team Ico, the developer behind the classic, Shadow of the Colossus.

Then it went quiet, and it remains so to this day. Sony have always said that the project is in development, but it has been a massively troubled game with many key people coming and going through out the years. That includes the game's original creator, Fumito Ueda. He still knows what is what on the project though as he acts as a consultant. This lead to some interesting revelations when he sat down and spoke to Dengeki Playstation (via Kotaku) about PlayStation's 20th Anniversary.

When asked what he felt was his most memorable title for PlayStation, he replied:

The Last Guardian, by which I mean all the hardships and the unforeseen amount of time required than what was originally thought.

He did say that there is hope for the title still though and that things are hopefully back on track for the scarce title.

Talks with Sony Computer Entertainment on The Last Guardian have been ironed out, and we're making progress under completely new conditions. I'm also working on some other things that I'll hopefully be able to show in time if progress is smooth.

Kotaku speculate that "under completely new conditions" means on the PlayStation 4, since the game was originally set to be a PlayStation 3 title. While I'm not 100% certain that is what he is referring to (it could mean a new direction or new management), it's almost certain to be announced for the PlayStation 4 when it is good and ready to make another public appearance.
