Reese Witherspoon Confirms She's Returning for Legally Blonde 3

A few days ago reports surfaced that Legally Blonde 3 was very close to happening. The first two movies have become something like cult classics as feminists have praised the main character of Elle Woods, played by Reese Witherspoon, for both standing up for herself and being a fabulous woman at the same gifs. Gifs of Elle responding to someone being surprised a ditzy blonde like her could get into law school. Or her responding to someone cat calling her with "I object!" The movies have found a second life on social media and really started to connect with the young generation on places like tumblr.

So it's not surprising that Deadline reported that MGM was close to closing a dealing with Witherspoon and screenwriters Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith and Karen McCullah in final talks to write the script. Today Witherspoon confirmed she's back for a third entry into the series.

The Witherspoon of 2018 is not the Witherspoon of 2001 and 2003 when the first two movies came out. She has since founded her own production company and helped produce award-winning material like Big Little Lies, Gone Girl, and Wild. Her company is very female focused, and it stands to reason that she would be bringing on her company to do the third Legally Blonde movie. The Witherspoon of today also has a lot of creative control over her projects now, and perhaps we could even see a female director take the helm for this one.
