Ryan Reynolds "Doesn't Know a Thing" About Deadpool's Future with the Disney-Fox Deal

Ever since Fox and Disney announced their intentions to merge fans have been wondering what would happen to the R-rated properties under the House of Mouse. Now that the second Deadpool movie is on the way it's a question that's coming up a lot to the various cast and crew. Ryan Reynolds recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the merger and while he doesn't know anything he doesn't think they would buy the Fox assets just to dismantle everything.

"I really genuinely don't know a thing about it," admits Reynolds. "I read that [CEO and chairman] Bob Iger felt that there's plenty of room in that universe to have a rated-R character like Deadpool. This is completely conjecture on my part, but I wouldn't imagine that Disney bought Fox to dismantle it or something like that. I think that Disney bought Fox so it could have that in its arsenal."

Producer for Deadpool 2 and director of the upcoming Dark Phoenix Simon Kinberg also weighed in that he hasn't heard anything but the plan is to keep making movies until they're told to stop.

"We haven't had any discussions yet about what the Disney acquisition of Fox would look like for the Marvel properties because I think legally they're not allowed to talk about it until it's done. So no we haven't talked about it all. We're just moving forward as we move forward. Once Drew Goddard's ready we'll get into X-Force and, believe it or not, we're still trying to get Gambit [starring Channing Tatum as the cajun mutant] up and running. The hope is to keep moving forward until we hear otherwise. To me, I have no idea what to expect but I think it could be really exciting."

The ink on the Disney-Fox deal hasn't even dried and people are declaring that the franchise is already dead. It sounds like the people working on the X-Men side of the Marvel universe at Fox have every intention to keep plugging away until the contract is finalized and the next evolution for the Marvel universe looks like.
