The Six Important Moments From The Flash – Rogue Air
*** This article contains spoilers for the most recent episode of The Flash ***
Tonight's penultimate episode of the first season of the Flash was called Rogue Air and it has so much going on that it will be hard to narrow down just the top six moments… but that's my job so I will make it happen. Tonight was a mix of moving the story forward and fans service. I mean, come on… a Green Lantern reference when they were at Ferris Air… Here are the six moments not counting that one:
1) Barry Allen has been looking for Harrison Wells and Eddie Thawne everywhere… except under their noses. When the particle accelerator turns on Barry releases Wells had been there the whole time. Wells takes off and Barry gives chase while Peek-a-Boo escapes only to be taken out by Iris West. Meanwhile Joe West finds Eddie and Cisco Ramon discovers that the accelerator is going to go on-line in 36 hours and will kill the metahumans kept prisoner inside.
2) Barry can't allow for the metahumans to be killed. So he calls in a favor from Lyla Michaels who agrees to send an ARGUS plane for them, but to get them through town he has to turn to Leonard Snart for help. Leonard doesn't care, but Barry plays on Snart's love for Central City. Captain Cold finally agrees on the condition that Barry wipes any record of Snart's existence from all police and government databases.
3) Though free from Wells, Eddie still has the knowledge that in the future Iris ends up marrying Barry instead of him. He knows this is the truth and he's just been lying to himself. He ends up breaking it off with Iris in a very final way. I don't think we are done with Eddie though. I have a feeling there is something bigger in store for him maybe as soon as next season.
4) Cold brings his sister who finally convinces Cisco to give her a codename, Golden Glider. And the siblings do exactly what you'd expect, they double cross The Flash and help the rogues escape. All except Deathbolt who Cold kills… Simmons owed Snart money. Peek-A-Boo, The Mist, Weather Wizard and Rainbow Raider escape knowing they have Captain Cold to thank. When Flash asks him why, he says that it was too good an opportunity to grow his Rogue's Gallery.
5) There was enough time in the episode for a father / son moment and this time the father is Joe. Barry is kicking himself for screwing up and trusting Captain Cold. He tells Joe that he wanted to be more like the Arrow, doing whatever it takes to get the job done. Joe points out that Barry is a different kind of hero, the kind that couldn't sit by and let even evil metahumans die. This is the big different between the two series and it was a nice place to remind viewers of that.
6) The particle accelerator goes on-line and Wells merely walks up to Star Labs. Barry meets him out front where Wells reminds him that Barry can't beat him. That's when the rest of the Justice League… oh wait, can't use that term… Barry's friends show up. Ronnie Raymond / Firestorm and Oliver Queen / The Arrow (or whatever he's calling himself at the time). The three of them work together along with a little gift from Ray Palmer / The Atom to take out the Reverse-Flash. And even though he is unconscious and the good guys won… you can't help but get the feeling that this is exactly what wells wanted to happen.
With one episode to go, it looks like we're really going to look into time travel and I'm wondering if whatever happens next week time wise, might cause a Flashpoint like start to the new season but not just for The Flash, but for Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow… Barry saves his mom and maybe changes everything leading to Rip Hunter putting a crew together to fix time. Just a thought.
