A Minecraft Movie released its first trailer and poster today as we ramp up the anticipation for 2025 event movies. There are no doubts as to why this week, as Warner Bros. for sure wanted this trailer in front of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice audiences this weekend. This one stars Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge. It is directed by Jared Hess (Nacho Libre). As someone who knows zero things about Minecraft, I think this looks like the same amount of fun as the last two Jumanji movies. No doubt that is the tone they are going for here.
A Minecraft Movie Synopsis
Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn't just help you craft; it's essential to one's survival! Four misfits—Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Momoa), Henry (Hansen), Natalie (Myers), and Dawn (Brooks)—find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they'll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative…the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world.

My daughter made me play this trailer six times before I left for work this morning, so if that is any indication, WB should have a pretty big hit on their hands next spring. Having Jack Black also helps; the man cannot help but make money in family films. It looks like this will be a new franchise.
