Food Item Collectors Are Some Of The Most Interesting At Star Wars Celebration
Thursday afternoon, I got to attend a really fun and interesting discussion and tour through the various collectible food and drink packaging throughout the world for Star Wars. Hosted by collectors Johnathan McElwain and Tom Stewart, this was a fascinating area of collecting I had only dabbled in previously, but now am excited to jump into as soon as possible.
A great deal of these products came from overseas and are quite saught after. The panelists told stories of taking trips to many countries, including quite a few to Peru, where they seem to have Star Wars printed on everything they eat. Everything from yogurt cups to soda containers were discussed, even all of the different plastic bags from loafs of bread with Star Wars logos on them. Some kind of oatmeal that just had a quote from Jeremy Bullock on the side.
Personally I like the cereal boxes and boxes of mac and cheese. I have a couple of The Force Awakens cereal boxes, and a box or two of the mac and cheese, but after sitting in the panel it became quite clear that I have not even scratched the surface of this stuff. The panel stated, and I agree, that the best cereal box tie-ins are the ones that mix Star Wars with the cereal property itself, like the Honey Nut Cheerios box with Darth Vader Bee.
Finally, they talked a little about how to drain cans and remove labels while keeping the integrity of the item intact. Displays were covered as well, with a jaw-dropping look at Gus Lopez and his cereal room.
Below you will find tons and tons of pictures of everything shown.
