Zenescope Unveils Bishouju-Style Grimm Fairy Tales Statue
Zenescope Entertainment made their mark on the comic industry by tapping into the public domain and spinning up a Grimm Fairy Tales series that took the character of Snow White and made her a guardian of the realms. Named Sela Mathers, the character got a more modern and very comic book like make-over as did the classic fairy tales. Story like Cinderella, Rumpelstiltskin and Three Blind Mice were retold closer to their original dark versions along with a parallel horror-filled modern tale. The series was created by Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco and they worked with writers like Raven Gregory, Pat Shand, myself and many others to build a vast universe of characters that ranged well outside of the original Grimm Brothers stories. And where the format of the series changed a bit over the thirteen years since the series debuted in 2005, one thing has been consistent… Sela.
The company launched a Kickstarter to introduce a new 'Bishouju Style' Sela statue, the first in what they hope is a series of collectibles. The campaign had a $25,000 goal and launched with a limited 'early bird' special that knocked $15 off a level that got you the statue, exclusive artwork by Jason Cardy and access to stretch goal rewards. The campaign funded in 3 hours after launch and all 160 early bird backer slots were taken. As of right now, the project has taken in over $44,000 and still has 23 days left. So for statue collectors, Bishouju fans and those who love Zenescope, you'll want to check out this kickstarter as it's going to fund… and it looks like it's still going strong.
