Choose Your Own Charity With Humble Bundle
I was over on the Humble Bundle website taking a look at the Pathfinder comics bundle from Dynamite Entertaiment, and I noticed something I hadn't seen before. This particular bundle is set up to give funds to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, Doctors Without Borders, the Make A Wish Foundation and Camden's Concerts. It was the first time I had seen four charities for one bundle.
But that wasn't what surprised me. It was a button just below the four listed charities offering a "Choose Your Own Charity" option. A lot of people have charities that mean something to them. Whether it's to raise money for a disease that personally affected them, a rescue for a type of animal that they love or a thousand other types of charities. This option allows folks to personalize a deal that already allows you to choose what you want to pay.
For me, growing up a comic fan and how much the stories enriched my life, and then meeting Jack Kirby at a young and impressionable age sent me on the path of being a comic creator and writer. Those older creators mean the world to me, so I'm a big proponent of the Hero Initiative. I've participated in anthologies to help raise money for them, created an anthology to do the same and even taught writing classes at conventions where the fee went straight to the charity. So when I looked and found the Hero Initiative as one of the charities I could donate to through Humble Bundle, it solidified by decision to buy the books.
So if you are looking for some new digital comics or RPG game components and you have a favorite charity, you can now get something for yourself while giving to an organization you really care about. I mean there are 19 different charities on there for Pit Bull rescues… how amazing is that.
