Consistently Disturbing: Clean Room #7 Is A Haunting Standalone Issue
This week brings the release of the Clean Room #7, from Vertigo, written by Gail Simone with art by Jon Davis-Hunt. This month we get a standalone issue that allows us to dive deeper into Astrid's background and how she became the rigid human that she is today.
I am always so disturbed after I finish reading an issue of Clean Room, but it's a good thing that my level of disturbance has been consistent since the first issue. This story is so incredibly imaginative and cryptic; I'm waiting for it to be turned into a horror film.
As you read, there is absolutely no sense of a happy ending or resolution approaching. The world of Clean Room is steadily scary. This issue made me even more curious about Astrid's character. Yes, the main focus of the issue was on her backstory, but as more details were revealed, I just found myself wanting to know more. Simone does an excellent job of mixing clues and suspense. Then, Jon Davis-Hunt takes that and draws detailed creepy pink monsters that you won't be able to get out of your head! Trust me, after you read the first few pages you'll want to stop. In fact, there are many moments in the series that will make you cringe and want to turn away, but that's exactly why it's such a brilliant comic. Without spoiling anything, I want you to run to your local comic book store and grab an issue for yourself. See what all the fuss is about.
