A Graphic Novel Turned Musical! Support Will & Whit On Kickstarter

Kickstarter is the source of many cool projects, but this is the first time I've encountered something like this. Based on Eisner Award nominated author Laura Lee Gulledge's graphic novel, Will & Whit, is an inspired new graphic novel musical. It will feature 12 new songs by Artners Ceci Vaughan, Lauren Larken, and Juliet Trail. Set in the mountain town of Charlottesville, Virginia, the story centers around a DIY-inspired teenage girl named Will, who crafts lamps to deal with her fear of the dark. The arrival of a hurricane named Whitney and a new arts carnival, throw a money wrench into Will's carefully controlled life, forcing Will and her friends to all face their fears…together.

Kirkus Reviews calls the story: "Quirky, clever, and insightful."

The creative team is holding a Kickstarter this month to raise funds to support the recording of their album, completing the sheet music, editing the script, and finishing the unique production design elements. They hope that it will allow them to get their musical production in the hands of interested schools and theatres across the country. The unique production design will feature projected motion comic shorts, LED props & costumes, and an audience interaction human hurricane. Don't forget, there will also be Will's mysterious living shadows that dance and draw around her throughout the show. Will & Whit is said to explore friendship & community, healing, darkness, and the power of art, so let's all come together to support this amazing project.
