Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Tap is Horribly Addictive and Far Too Fun

I may have named Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Porg Invasion the best Facebook game of all time, and that really isn't changing here. Because, okay, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Tap is a fun game. But to really enjoy it, you've got to play the regular old Final Fantasy Brave Exvius which is a much different beast. Sure, you can use the story recaps to keep yourself relatively up to date with the story, but it doesn't really allow you the ultimate joy of just spamming abilities in Tap the way you can't in FFBE. It's the contrast where Tap's true strength lies.

So, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Tap, or FFBE Tap, is a Facebook game app playable through your browser or through the mobile Facebook Messenger app. And it pretty much is what it says – you get to  play through a story featuring the cast of characters from Final Fantasy Brave Exvius by tapping your way to victory against an impressive array of monsters.

There are two gameplay mechanics total in FFBE Tap, which makes it the simplest Final Fantasy ever made. You tap anywhere on the screen to use your base attacks, and then you tap the character icons at the bottom once their Limit gauge has filled to launch their limit break ability. That's it. That's all you do.

The sheer joy I feel at just tapping my way through stage after stage after stage in this game is frankly absurd. I think it might mean I've played far too many Final Fantasy games, but. That isn't going to stop me from playing more of them, if I'm being totally honest here.

And it's pretty much the perfect setup for a Facebook game. It isn't quite the adorable, engrossing cuteness of Porg Invasion, but it's close. You can absolutely ignore the entire story component and just fly through tapping as fast as you can for however long you can stand it. But you might want to pay at least a little bit of attention to the story, because it's actually not that bad. Not fabulous, a bit too simple, but good enough for a game designed to be picked up and put down extremely quickly.

It's like a high-speed trainwreck that makes absolutely no goddamn sense by any RPG rules, and that is why it's perfect. It's like a bullethell game if you were the one shooting the constant barrage of bullets and enemies just lined up, waiting to be fired on by your crack team of 2D spirtes.

And if that wasn't enough, you can even unlock raid battles in FFBE Tap. Yes, tap-based raid battles. It is exactly as absurd as it sounds.

Granted, if you have absolutely no context for this game at all before going in, it is a senseless machine of constant tapping and death and you probably wouldn't stick with it. But for an FFBE player, there are many reasons to pick up FFBE Tap. And I honestly did not expect to type those words when I started out reviewing this game.
