Injustice: Gods Among Us Is Currently Free To Download
Injustice: Gods Among Us, the fighting game with DC Comics characters produced by NetherRealm Studios, is free to download now until June 25th. You probably know that NetherRealm is the current producer of the Mortal Kombat games. Injustice: Gods Among Us: Ultimate Edition is free on PC via Steam, and the Playstation 4 Store. The backward compatible Xbox 360 version is available for free from the Xbox Store. Alas, it is not available on the Nintendo Switch.
Injustice: Gods Among Us was originally released back in 2013 on Xbox, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii U. An upscaled version was also released on Windows PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4. There was also a mobile version released on Android and iOS phones and tablets. It features dozens of familiar faces from the DC Comics library, including Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Catwoman, The Flash, Green Arrow, Nightwing, Aquaman, and dozens of fan-favorite characters, and so-called iconic locations like the Batcave and the Fortress of Solitude, and then mash them all together into a story campaign mode that blends DC's usual multiverse-driven action, 2.5D battling, and assorted mini-games.
The story takes place in an alternate universe where a disillusioned and corrupted Superman has taken over the world as a dictator to rule over it with an iron – or is it steel – fist. No more crime! Also no more freedom! What's Batman to do? Why, form a resistance movement, of course! He finds a parallel universe where things are fine and brings the heroes over to battle their now-fascistic counterparts. Cue Mortal Kombat-style fights where The Flash can fight against another Flash and the story still makes sense. Otherwise powerless heroes have been injected with nanotechnology so they can go toe-to-toe with the likes of Superman and Wonder Woman without being turned into a red smear on the ground. Being DC superheroes, the violence is kept to a sanitized PG-13 with no blood, no gore, no ripped limbs, or exposed innards.
WB Games made the announcement on their Twitter feed:
If you ever wanted to mash together Harley Quinn and Aquaman to see who wins that fight, this is your chance! If you want to see Doomsday wail endlessly on Green Arrow and somehow have Green Arrow win with well-timed strikes, now's your chance!
