Mass Effect: Andromeda Give Us New Screens And The Ability To Set Shepard's Gender?

mea_february-21

We're getting closer and closer to the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda and EA and Bioware are happy to give us more information as the date draws nearer. They released a few new screenshots from Andromeda which showcase a new alien race as well as some Sara Ryder and Alec Ryder, as well as Liam Kosta. Some of these look familiar, but what caught my eye was the one up on top here with a new face we haven't seen yet. Maybe an enemy, maybe an ally. Maybe its one of the Ryder twins in hideous armor. I'm betting on a new enemy alien species, personally. We also got a glimpse at another female N7, identity unknown. The entire collection is below.

In other Andromeda news, Game Informer reports that a recent press event for EA revealed that players will be able to select which gender Commander Shepard is before starting Andromeda. This is supposed to have some effect on Andromeda but the fact remains that it's an odd choice. Even odder for Shepard's gender to affect Andromeda while we ignore all of Shepard's actions. Mainly because, for narrative reasons, we need to ignore the ramifications of Shepard, which is one of the many reasons why Andromeda is not taking place in the Milky Way Galaxy.

Having Shepard's gender decide events seems arbitrary and a bit like backtracking. Bioware has been very forward about wanting to separate Andromeda from the previous Mass Effect games, and this seems to fly right in the face of that.

For more on Andromeda, you can read up on some of your other squadmates like Peebee or Kallo Jath, or you can check out the awesome combat trailer from last week here.
