Nintendo Japan Ceasing Production Of Grey, Yellow, & Red Joy-Cons
It looks like Nintendo is working to quietly phase out a few colors of its Joy-Con controllers in Japan. If a recent finding on the official My Nintendo Store website in Japan is to be believed, at least three different colorways are being discontinued. Siliconera reports that the website revealed that the grey Joy-Con controllers have been discontinued, despite being the basic option for Nintendo Switch buyers. It looks like the colors are still in stock in some locations, but that probably won't last long as buyers scramble to pick up matching controllers for their new system.
In addition, both the Neon Yellow and Red Joy-Con sets appear to have ceased production as well. Neon Yellow was once sold in the promotion of the fighting game ARMS. The Red Joy-Con sets are a deep fire engine red and came out around the same time as Super Mario Odyssey. They aren't part of any other color combo at the moment, so if they're discontinued they'll be going the way of the dinosaur as well.
Nintendo didn't indicate whether there are new colors coming to replace the ones being lost or what is going, exactly. There were just pastel green and blue controllers introduced in Japan with the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Switch, but there are still plenty of colors missing from the wide spectrum of possible colors.
Plus, out of all the colors to have been selected for discontinuation, these seem like totally random choices. Hopefully, it isn't to be permanent and there will be some sort of replacement or viable option for folks to get their favorite colors again. Choosing your favorite Joy-Con colors is basically the most fun part of getting a Switch that can be docked, after all. Now, if only they'd release a hot pink in left and right forms.
