Pokemon Sun And Moon Have Been Bought Just Shy Of 15 Million Times Already
Pokemon Sun and Moon really did feel like a rejuvenation of the series to me. While still a classic Pokemon game, it was probably the most radical of its kind to date. Taking away gyms, bringing the game to a new culture and more made the game feel special.
It also seems to have really resonated with buyers too. Thanks to Nintendo's financial report today, we now have numbers on how well the game has been doing. The title, which launched on 18 November, 2016 sold 14.62 million copies by December 31st. There aren't many series which pull those numbers. It proves Pokemon really is still one of the biggest juggernauts in games.
I'm sure at least a portion of this success comes from Pokemon Go, which really rekindled the series for many casual fans. How many actually went all in and made the jump from mobile to 3DS isn't clear, but my bet is that it isn't insignificant.
