I could've gone through last night's Arrow, doing my usual thing of finding the six most important moments in the episode. And there were many contenders like the fight between Thea Queen and Malcolm Merlyn. Damien Darhk getting his idol back. Andy Diggle's betrayal. John Diggle and Oliver Queen going at it. But the one moment that overshadowed all the rest was the on at Eleven-Fifty-Nine.

The show has had deaths of major characters before. Tommy Merlyn died at the end of season one. Moira Queen died at the end of season two. Sara Lance died to kick off season three. The show has had it's strong emotional moments. But last night the writers reminded us that his is not the comic books. That what happens on the show is unique to the series and anyone can die at any time. Just because Green Arrow and Black Canary are a fixture in the DCU doesn't mean that Laurel Lance can't die in the TV universe.

Producers swear this is not a fake death and she won't be brought back using the Lazarus Pit. Laurel Lance is gone. Katie Cassidy isn't, she's going to guest on The Flash as an Earth-2 version of Canary named the Black Siren. She's also going to be in flashback on Arrow and she is lending her voice to the second season of the animated Vixen series where we learn how the two of them met.

Now does that mean that the Black Canary is gone from Arrow? Maybe… and Maybe not. Rich Johnston ran a piece a few days ago talking about that very topic.

As for the death itself, I think it's going to have lasting effects on the series. A reminder that they are risking their lives every time they suit up. But also, it's going to effect Diggle in a profound way. He is going to feel guilt over his brother's betrayal and how it lead to Laurel's death. The other person greatly effected by this is going to be Quentin Lance. He had just accepted that his daughter was a vigilante and was proud of her for it. But you can see, without a word, that his heart broke at the end of last night's episode. His betrayal of Darhk lead to his daughter's death. This could make him go very dark (no pun intended).

The other big thing from last night is the promise Laurel asked of Oliver. We didn't get to hear what it was, but the producers promise that it wasn't to help her fake her death. Whatever it is, we're told that it will be revealed in the recently announced season five.

At least now we know who was in that grave we've been seeing for the last six months.
