Dice Explain Decision To Reboot Rather Than Sequelize Battlefront

Battlefront

There have been a lot of complaints surrounding DICE's Battlefront reboot since the game was revealed last month. A lot of that has been surrounding a perceived lack of content and the fact that the game isn't building on Pandemic's Battlefront 2.

In a recent interview with OPM (via Game Radar) DICE's Patrick Bach talked about why that is. This is a reboot for a reason and it all stems from the studio wanting to make their own game.

I think what we did was instead of trying to build upon the old games, we went back and said let's start over. Let's analyse the good and the bad, like we did with old games, but it's more about going back to the core idea that Battlefront stands for, and then building on that. Because otherwise you will create a version of somebody else's game, and that's not what we do!

He later goes on to explain that this decision is about DICE making a DICE game with a Battlefront concept, rather than a Battlefront game that the studio is just handling. While it might scare away original fans, this is going to be a game on the developer's terms.

We build our own games, we build something that breathes 'DICE'. We wanted to take a fresh stance on the concept of Battlefront, rather than saying 'let's take that feature and call it the same thing', or 'let's remove that feature'. It will just get messy. So you have to see it as a reboot.

I say good on DICE for being bold and making the game they want to make. I don't want a Battlefront
that's been pawned off on a studio that doesn't care. At the same time, I'm also not the hugest of fans of DICE's trademark style either though. Hopefully their passion for this project will shine through in the end to bring together an excellent project.
