The popular Divergent book series has had a solid run over the years; however, as a live-action film franchise, it hasn't exactly replicated that same level of success. In fact, after basically underperforming with each of its three films and getting its planned series scrapped, it feels like any Hollywood adaptation might have hit a wall for the time being.

Now, the author responsible for the Divergent universe explains why she's not too bothered about the fourth and final film being canceled several years after the previous entry stumbled.

Divergent Author is Actually Okay with the Final Film's Cancellation

During an interview with People, Divergent author Veronica Roth discussed the abrupt ending to the cinematic franchise after underperforming, admitting, "I mean, breaking things in two was all the rage at the time. That was why that decision was made. But at that point, I think I always felt peace about it just because I knew the movies were taking a different track than the books, and if you change the lead-up, you change the ending. So I kind of felt like at that point … I feel like that third movie, I don't know — there's a lot we could talk about with it. But it's its own thing. It feels complete to me, relatively speaking, because what does that even mean at that point?"

Roth later says that she wasn't exactly given a full breakdown of events for the planned film either, telling the publication, "I don't think they had a really clear outline for me. I think they were maybe a little worried about telling me one way or the other because maybe they were concerned about what I would say or setting expectations or something like that."

Do you think that the Divergent franchise needed that last film, or was it better to call it quits after that previous entry?
