The Final Trailer For The Shape Of Water Teases A Different Type Of Monster
December just can't get here soon enough. The Shape of Water looks like it's going to be one of those movies people talk about for years. There is a reason Fox Searchlight is pushing this movie as an Oscar contender. We can hope it's the movie that finally gets Guillermo del Toro the recognition he deserves as one of the best directors working today. This is also a red band trailer so there's some blood and some bad words as well for those of you watching trailers at work.
The movie still looks really good and now it looks like we're getting a better idea of what the theme of the movie is. Del Toro has always had an interesting way of looking at the monsters of the world but this time he's really putting that theme front and center. It's very clear here that, by the end, we're not going to think of the monster as the monster of the film but Michael Shannon's villain. It's not an uncommon theme but for someone as masterful at telling the story of monsters as del Toro it's going to be fun to watch it play out.
Summary: In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa's life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda discover a secret classified experiment.
The Shape of Water, directed by Guillermo del Toro, stars Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Doug Jones. Look for it in theaters starting December 8th.
