We've basically arrived at the end of the line for the current era of DC's current cinematic universe with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. And even though it wasn't planned to be this way, one could argue that the silver lining is having a chance to (mostly) wrap up a few storylines for fan-favorite actors and well-crafted characters from DC's cinematic universe, including star Patrick Wilson.

So, after collaborating closely with Wilson on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Insidious, popular filmmaker James Wan is taking the time to share the primary reasons he's inclined to work with Wilson on various projects. When initially asked about how they've come to collaborate on various genre projects so far, the filmmaker tells /Film, "It's pretty simple. Patrick is a talented actor. He's great. He's really easy to work with. He is no fuss. At the end of the day, he is a big film buff. He's such a film fan which some people were a little bit surprised when he wanted to direct. He went on to direct the next Insidious film [Insidious: The Red Door], but not for me."

The filmmaker later elaborated on their shared history and how Wilson's relationship with directing has developed over time, adding, "I've spent many years hanging out with Patrick on set, and we would just sort of geek out and talk about all the movies that we grew up loving. So, I'm not surprised at all that Patrick has aspirations to do more stuff behind the camera. I enjoy working with the guy. He gets me, I get him, and we kind of have a very shorthand way of working. We trust each other, and it makes it fun. Filmmaking can be very stressful, so it's kind of nice to surround yourself with people that you enjoy working with."

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom: Synopsis and Official Cast

Director James Wan and Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa—along with Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman—return in the sequel to the highest-grossing DC film of all time: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father's death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time, Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman's family and the world from irreversible destruction.

All returning to the roles they originated, Jason Momoa plays Arthur Curry/Aquaman, now balancing his duties as both the King of Atlantis and a new father; Patrick Wilson is Orm, Aquaman's half-brother and his nemesis, who must now step into a new role as his brother's reluctant ally; Amber Heard is Mera, Atlantis' Queen and mother of the heir to the throne; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is Black Manta, committed more than ever to avenge his father's death by destroying Aquaman, his family and Atlantis; and Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, a fierce leader and mother with the heart of a warrior. Also reprising their roles are Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is in theaters now.
