Jon Bernthal On Punishers And Pit Bulls
Jon Bernthal is in the news a lot right now for having been cast as Frank Castle / The Punisher in Marvel's Daredevil season 2 for Netflix. The actor has been working consistently in the three years since he appeared as Shane on The Walking Dead. He was in Fury with Brad Pitt and has upcoming films Shot Collar with Lake Bell, The Accountant with Ben Affleck and Sicario with Emily Blunt. In that time he also got married and has three kids The actor is also passionate about something near and dear to my own heart… pit bulls. Bernthal has two pit bull rescues named Boss and Venice that go with him everywhere. He told CBS News:
They come to every audition, every meeting, There's not a single day of 'The Walking Dead' that I was on that Boss and Venice weren't with us.
Bernthal is an animal advocate and the son of Eric Bernthal, the chairman of the board of the Humane Society of the United States. The actor also filmed the recent PSA for the Animal Farm Foundation and The Majority Project to change the negative stereotype of pit bulls.
A pit bull is a great family pet. You have thousands of these dogs in these shelters looking for homes, and unfortunately the stigma attached to the dog keeps people from adopting them.
Next up for Bernthal is a trip into the Marvel Universe to play the Punisher opposite of Charlie Cox in the second season of Netflix's hit series Daredevil. The actor share his feelings about getting the role:
I'm extremely honored and grateful, and I know the character has a ton of fans out there. I give every single one of them my word that I'm going to give it my all,
Maybe Boss and Venice can make a guest appearance in the series.
