The seventh season of the ABC series Once Upon a Time is going to be very different, with a lot of cast changes. Six actors are gone and five new ones have joined. And where there has been some speculation that the season premiere might just echo the series premiere, the show's co-creator Adam Horowitz told TVLine that isn't quite the case:
"We're not doing what we did in the pilot, which is a curse hits and rips everyone away [from their lives]. The first episode is not about the curse, when it happened or how it happened. We're coming at this a different way."
The changes we know about are that Regina (Lana Parilla), Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) and Rumple (Robert Carlyle) are now bar owner Roni, policeman Rogers and, well, someone menacing. Henry (Jared Gilmore), all grown up and with a child of his own that he didn't know about named Lucy (Alison Fernandez), must enlist them to fight evil. Cinderella (Dania Ramierez) is Lucy's mother and Cindy's stepmother, Gabrielle Anwar, is that evil:
"What's awesome about Lady Tremaine is… exactly what I can't tell you. But Gabrielle is bringing levels of humanity to a character whose name has Evil in it."
And Regina/Roni might be headed towards a new romance, but that's not her main story for the season:
"There are so many other things she has to deal with — both Regina and [Roni] — and central to that is her relationship with Henry. It's been exciting to dive into a mother-son relationship from a new angle."
Once Upon a Time returns for its revamped seventh season on October 6th on ABC.
