Report: Blizzard's Overwatch Is Still Considering Pay Models
Overwatch is a bit of an oddity by Blizzard. It doesn't really 'feel' like it's a Blizzard game, but the concept is pretty cool. The arena shooter features superheroes and class based fighting in a multiplayer setting. It looks pretty engaging and I'm sure me and hordes of others will jump into the game when it becomes available.
How we will be paying for that content is still uncertain though. According to a source of Yahoo Finance, the publisher is still deciding the best way to let players enjoy the game. Currently it is deciding between "free-to-play or expansion type focused mode".
The contributer added:
No matter what, you will initially be able to play the game for free, but how you pay for heroes is still to be decided. The development team is pushing to launch the game this year, but senior executives are skeptical it can be done by then according to the source
If I was a betting man, I'd guess the publisher would go with the expansion pack route. Blizzard have had such success with it in Hearthstone, I can see them being enthusiastic for the option.
I could be wrong though. Perhaps it won't translate to a FPS. We will see in time.
