NXT Narrows Gap in Wednesday Night Ratings War with AEW Dynamite
Coming off the positively-received NXT Takeover: In Your House PPV, WWE's black and gold brand held up well against rival AEW Dynamite in Wednesday night's ratings. Both shows saw a drop in both viewership and demo rating, but AEW's drop was much larger than NXT, and both shows finished in a similar range. Here's the breakdown based on the numbers from Showbuzz Daily.
AEW Dynamite Sinks Below 700,000 Viewers
AEW scored a .23 rating in the 18-49 demographic, down from last week's .29 rating in the same demo. In terms of viewership, Dynamite was down a massive 53,000 viewers and fell below the 700,000 mark with 677,000 viewers. AEW was ranked 14th for the night, up from 27th place last week.
WWE NXT Rises to 35th Place
NXT was down too, with a .16 rating compared to last week's .20 and a drop of just 42,000 viewers from 715,000 to 673,000. NXT was ranked 35th for the night across cable, up from last week's 45th place. So you can see why even though AEW technically beat NXT in the ratings, this was clearly actually a win for NXT, right? The numbers don't lie.
The Bottom Line 'Cause Chad Said So
I was talking to my wife Keighleyanne about the Wednesday Night Ratings Wars earlier today, and I told her how unfair it is that everyone is always trying to present AEW as coming out on top in the war just because they keep getting higher ratings than NXT does. I know it's a painful topic for her, too, because she kept trying to change the subject and finally asked me to please leave her alone. But I told her not to worry; The Chadster is going to make sure that WWE gets fair and equal representation in the press with my weekly ratings articles. Then she rolled her eyes at all the people who have a problem with NXT.
