WWE Releases Travis Banks, Ligero Following #SpeakingOut Allegations

WWE has taken more action in response to sexual misconduct allegations against wrestlers working for the company's NXT UK brand. Both Ligero and Travis Banks have been fired by WWE, according to multiple reports, including from ESPN. Banks, real name Bligh, was accused of maintaining a secret sexual relationship with former trainee Millie McKenzie when she was seventeen, and also of committing emotional abuse during that relationship. Ligero, whose real name is Simon Musk, was accused of emotional abuse and sexual harassment against former trainee Natalie Sykes., amongst other similar claims. Ligero was also accused of sexual assault by wrestler Violet O'Hara.

Last week, WWE also released 205 Live star Jack Gallagher in response to sexual assault allegations. But some other WWE wrestlers accused of misconduct remain employed by the company at present. Most notably, former NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin, and Matt Riddle, who denied accusations of sexual assault against him and debuted on Smackdown last Friday in a big opening match against AJ Styles, which he won.

The problems with sexual misconduct in the pro wrestling industry are not limited to WWE. Impact Wrestling has so far fired Joey Ryan, Dave Crist, and now Michael Elgin in response to allegations about them. AEW announced that it would consider the future of Jimmy Havoc after he completes rehab. At the same time, Sammy Guevara was suspended by the company, not for sexual misconduct allegations, but for making a rape joke about WWE star Sasha Banks. Several other independent wrestling promotions have been rocked by the scandal, with some closing down permanently and others undergoing management restructuring. NWA shut down operations pending a restructuring after vice president Dave Lagana was accused of sexual assault, an allegation that Lagana denied, and it's unknown if the company will return, as NWA talent has been taking bookings and getting releases from their contracts.
