John Layman Sees Drop In Chew Sales, Wonders If It's Stayed Too Long (Updated)
Update – I've known John Layman for a while now and this one still got passed me. Seems his earlier tweet was a bit tongue in cheek and I bit.
As you can see he even changed his title to "Slow News Day Layman"… It's after the middle of December, John… of course it's a slow news day.
Rob Guillory and John Layman's Chew took off like a rocket when it debuted. Now, after seeing a significant drop in sales between issues 38 and 39, the writer is musing if perhaps the series has overstayed it's welcome.
The sales numbers for the two issues are not available yet, but we can see from the previous issues that the last three prior have been seeing a moderate sales loss. Issue #35 had an estimated sales of 12,818 and issue #36 estimated at 12,402. That's just a 3% drop in sales which is fairly standard. Issue #37 is estimated to have sold 12,214 issues less than a 2% drop there. (Sales based on the estimated numbers provided by Diamond Comic Distrubutors).
So how drastic is the drop between issue #37 and #38 and then again between #38 and #39? We'll have to wait and see. But if you are a fan of Chew you might want to let Layman know it and talk a couple friends into picking up the title.
