Final Fantasy XIV Now Has Over 10 Million Players
As you might expect from the headline of this article and seeing my name attached to it, I was greatly pleased to find this announcement in my inbox this morning. Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV has over 10 million players as the game welcomes patch 4.06.
The company pins this continued success as largely due to the game's robust updates which consistently provide players with new content at a steady, but quick pace.
The recent Stormblood expansion was pretty darn massive, expanding in-game content with two new playable jobs, an increased level cap, and an engrossing storyline that takes players to previously unexplored lands. Yes, I happened to enjoy the hell out of it. And subsequent patches following the launch also brought the inclusion of high-level raids, enhancements to player jobs, and a number of other new features.
Just over six weeks after the launch of the Stormblood expansion and we are already at the sixth update to the game, and patch 4.06 brings with it a decent number of content and balance updates.
And since this player count milestone coincides with the release of Patch 4.06 and the start of the annual Moonfire Faire seasonal event, that just makes the news even sweeter.
Players can now take part in an all-new series of quests, including facing off against Ultros and his uncontrollable tentacles. Yes, Ultros is back which means we'll be seeing more Hildibrand soon. If you have not gotten involved in the Hildibrand questline, I highly encourage you to do so. It's got a zany storyline and includes three trials with ridiculous mehanics, and is a whole lot of fun. The Hildibrand quests, if nothing else, give you some context for the "Fallen Corpses Writhe In Style" fate in Southern Thanalan.
As always, triumphant adventurers can obtain event items to ring in the celebrations, including a dyeable Faire version of a popular set of equipment.
If you are properly sick of my fangirling about FFXIV but haven't tried the game. Well. The Final Fantasy XIV Free Trial beckons new players to join the millions of adventurers in the realm of Eorzea. The free trial allows anyone to access all available content up to level 35, create up to eight playable characters, and experience the different playable races, classes, and jobs with no restrictions on playtime.
And if you do want to try out the game with some assistance, I know a decently competent tank who would love to shepherd you through the content over on the Coeurl server.
