"Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers" is Equivalent to a "Whole New RPG"

Final Fantasy XIV fans shouldn't be disappointed in the Square Enix E3 showcase, as it gave us a hilarious new trailer about the Shadowbringers expansion. Even if the info given at the show was just a wrap-up of everything we know so far, the trailer itself is a nice treat.

And Game Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed that Shadowbringers is not just a simple expansion pack, but brings new content "equal to a whole new RPG."

Which, I guess, explains the battle system changes.

As for the trailer. Well, it's long and a total doozy.

The trailer focused on the use and presence of aether and aetheric energy to help explain the split between worlds and the tyranny of light that's affected the new gameplay zones in The First world. And the reveal that both Hydalyn and Zodiark, the gods whose fight has encapsulated the main story of the MMO (though sometimes only from the shadows), are not in fact gods. But instead primals.

So there's a decent bit of lore here to explore, and a little bit of mindbreaking revelations for those who are really into their Final Fantasy XIV lore.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers will release on PC and PS4 on July 2, 2019.
