Long Awaited Dreamfall Chapters Port To PS4 And Xbox One Was Delayed And No One Mentioned It
Dreamfall Chapters is the sequel to The Longest Journey and has been available on Steam since October of 2014, however a port of the game for PS4 and Xbox One was supposed to release on March 24th, yet, March 24th came and no game appeared on the PSN Store or Xbox Marketplace. Turns out, Deep Silver announced that they are delaying the port until May 5th. This news, however, was not widely spread and left many fans in a lurch. They took to developer Red Thread Games' social media and recieved a response on March 27th. Days after the game was supposed to appear.
While Red Thread acknowledges that the news could have been spread much better, but the fact that no media outlet picked it up is a bit strange. In a search I did for press releases from Deep Silver on press release aggregator Games Press shows no new announcements coming from Deep Silver. The news hit the Deep Silver site, but never got passed along to the press. While it seems like Deep Silver and Red Thread know about the problem, it does leave you wondering just how many announcements never actually make it to media hands?
In fact, the only press release from Deep Silver about Dreamfall Chapters in February had to do with the game's soundtrack. And then no updates.
Now, I'm on the Deep Silver press release list through a PR firm, and I get alerts from Games Press, and check Games Press myself, while also having a ton of social media alerts set up for things like this – and I'll assume just about every one of my colleagues in the world of Games Journalism have similar set ups – and not one of us came across this. If you look for "Dreamfall Chapters delayed" in Google, you don't get any hits about the console port. All it tells you is that updates to the game on Steam were held until the console launch in March – which we now know never happened.
So, this one fell through the cracks on all sides. As games journalists, we failed you. But, I hope this news helps make up for some of it.
The delay seems to be from a simple case of no one is saying. Deep Silver seems to have just updated their site and left things quiet, which is odd for a company that's often very fond of press releases. We've reached out to Deep Silver and Red Thread for comment.
In any case, the game will be out on console May 5th. And to tide you over, the announcement trailer is below.
