Mattel WWE Retro Figures Get Great Packaging, Heartbreak Hotel… and It's Awesome

Mattel announced at Toy Fair last week that their WWE line of action figures is now the #1 selling line on the market. They will look to continue that trend this year, with even more Elites, Basics, Battle Packs, Entrance Greats, and more. Two of those exclusive lines will be on shelves at Walmart and GameStop this spring.

First up is the second wave of Walmart's exclusive Elite Flashback Series figures. The first wave was excellent, and contained two Figure of the Year candidates, and this one looks just as good. Alundra Blaze gets her first Elite, and it comes with the pink Women's Title. Doink gets another Elite, and a Razor Ramon from his classic vignettes makes an appearance, with soft goods! The set is rounded out with a '90s Shawn Michaels. The coolest part, though, is that each figure comes with a piece to build the Heartbreak Hotel set from WWE TV in the '90s. Man, remember when it seemed like every wrestler and manager had one of those? Hey, Mattel — give us the Funeral Parlor and I will personally buy 10 people the figures on top of myself, no matter the cost.

Coming to GameStop is a different line of Flashback Elites titled RetroFest. Two figures have been shown, a Macho Man Randy Savage in his America getup, and a Rockers version of Shawn Michaels. While the figures are cool, it is the packaging that caught my eye. Every figure will come housed in a box in the style of an old WWE arcade machine. Featuring the retro WWE logo and stats on the back for each wrestler just like the old games select a wrestler screen. What a genius idea, since now we all have to buy two so we can keep one boxed. Seems a little weird doing a Rockers Shawn when they can't do a Marty Janetty to go along with him.

All of these figures should be in stores this spring and summer.
