DayZ Standalone Has Now Sold Over 3 Million Units
DayZ will no doubt prove to be, and in many ways already is, an important game on the entire industry landscape. While it didn't birth the Survival genre by any means, it has certainly been the spark that ignited an entire modern version of the genre.
That spark has continued to burn for Bohemia Interactive's fagship title as the game has now surpassed the 3 million copies sold on the PC market. That's more than a lot of major AAA games sell across all platforms. What was once just a mod for Arma II has now become one of Steam's mainstays on the top seller list and that likely won't change for a long time. .
The news was announced on the developer's own blog, explaining how the game is continuing without its creator Dean Hall, who left to pursue other interests last year. DayZ's project lead David Durcak closed the announcement with this statement:
We would like to say thank you to every single one of the three million players, that have joined us on the journey of making DayZ. You all have helped make DayZ the best open world, zombie survival game. This is an amazing achievement, and we are really looking forward to start sharing with you all of our game design improvements, anti-hack solutions and other optimizations we have been working on for a majority of the last year.
