Night Raiders: Brooklyn Letexier-Hart on Her Unexpected Opportunity

When Brooklyn Letexier-Hart originally auditioned for Danis Goulet's dystopian sci-fi thriller, she didn't think much of it at first. Little did she know, What she believed to be an insignificant role, turned out much more so for her first feature film, having only previously worked on a recurring role on the Kristin Kreuk-starred CW series Burden of Truth as Madison Chartand. I spoke to the actress about how she came into the role of Waseese, meeting Goulet and her co-star Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers, who plays her mother, Niska.

"In my hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba [Canada], I went for a casting call for background actors, just for fun with my sister and my cousins," Letexier-Hart said. "Later, I was contacted for a few auditions, and I was very excited. When I got contacted the first time, I auditioned for Victoria, and I was told that I did good, but I was meaningless, I guess. I would be requested to audition for Waseese, and I was very excited because she was the lead and she's a very important character to audition for. Danis was actually doing auditions, and everything just kind of went very smoothly, and I just got to meet with her, and everything kind of went from there." The part of Victoria ended up going to Birva Pandya.

For such an intense and stunt-heavy film that's on-brand within the genre, Letexier-Hart opened up on how Goulet's oversight and attention to detail eased any concerns she might have had on set. "Danis felt it was very important to keep a safe and nurturing environment for all the cast and crew," she said. "We were all treated very well and made sure everything was okay, asking if we needed a break or have a pep talk. She's very good at keeping everyone as happy as possible."

Upon meeting Tailfeathers, Letexier-Hart bonded with her on set, even paralleling certain mother-daughter aspects into their own relationship. "When I first met with Máijá before filming, we had to work together to get to know each other and bond then get into character to prepare for our scenes," she said. "It is very inspiring. I look up to her, and she is a mentor."
