Paramount Narrows Possible Star Trek 3 Directors Down To 5

New Star Trek Into Darkness Clip – And Some Of Its Close CousinsWord from Deadline is the Paramount Pictures and JJ Abrams have narrowed down the list of potential directors to replace Robert Orci and the third Star Trek reboot film.

On the list are Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), Daniel Espinosa (Child 44), Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) and Duncan Jones (Source Code). The report says that Wyatt is at the top of the studios list at the moment.

Missing from the list are two names that we've seen bouncing around the web lately. Initial reports had Edgar Wright being considered for the job, perhaps because of his connection with Simon Pegg. There were also reports that former Star Trek: The Next Generation actor turned director Jonathan Frakes wanted to helm the film but his name is not mentioned.

Besides finding the right talent to head the film there is also scheduling to consider as some of the names above are currently on or committed to major projects like Jones working on Warcraft and Espinosa doing the upcoming Boston Strong film.
