Bungie Intends For Destiny 2 To Be A "Fresh Start For Everyone"

In a recent interview with IGNDestiny 2's game director Luke Smith and project lead Mark Noseworthy sat down to talk a bit about the difficulty of making a sequel and what they want Destiny 2 to represent to new and returning players. Smith said:

"Making the sequel to a game like Destiny is…hard. Hard in the way that making a sequel to anything people love is hard, but it's challenging because we have this game that brings people together over and over and with making a sequel, one of the first things we thought about doing was, 'How are we going to bring more people into this world?' That was one of our big challenges up front when we started thinking about the roads that we as Bungie could go down with Destiny."

Noseworthy then added:

"We are trying to make it a fresh start for everyone. So whether you're steeped in Destiny lore and you've read every grimoire card and played for thousands of hours, or you're brand new to Destiny, you can get something out of Destiny 2, and you start at the same spot. We're trying to really look when we're making a sequel, how do we make this a new platform for years of ongoing content and make it easier for people to get into."

As for that fresh start, it might include things like a new cryptarch, some returning vendors, and soccer, which we know are coming to Destiny 2's new social hub thanks to yet a different IGN report. The new social hub, The Farm, will hold up to 26 guardians in a single instance, which should make it feel busier than the Tower, but just 26 players in an instance seems a bit…empty to those familiar with MMO social hubs.

However, the Farm will get new residents and grow as the game progresses through its planned stages, which is kind of cool. That's a old game trick that'll be nice to see replicated in a game like Destiny 2, which is literally about surviving near total destruction. So watching the last refuge of the Guardians slowly become more lively will help the game feel more lived-in and less like the static nature of the Tower from Destiny 1.
