Bungie to Redesign Those Unused Destiny 2 Exotics
In response to community frustrations, Bungie has upped the detail and frequency of communication on the team's plans, and this latest weekly update is more evidence of that. At the very least, Bungie do seem to be listening to players, and because of that, they've detailed the changes coming to Destiny 2's exotic weapons.
As Exotics are the most powerful tier of weapons available in the game, Senior designer Jon Weisnewski explained how his sandbox team wants to make these valuable weapons more fun to use alongside increasing the balance between weapons overall. Weisnewski's main example is an underused exotic pulse rifle called Graviton Lance. While the lance looks and sounds awesome, it's not that great to use in play. Therefore, Weisnewski and his team are working on making it more powerful, by reducing the recoil burst and adding some aim assist.
He also notes that some exotics aren't currently being addressed, either because they like their current balance or other upcoming general tuning passes should help to address their issues. Those exotic weapons not currently targeted for a dedicated balance and update pass are Merciless, Telesto, Wardcliff Coil, MIDA Multi-Tool, Colony, Legend of Acrius, and Vigilance Wing.
"Dialing in the right amount of power, testing in all activities with all types of load outs, finding the bugs, fixing the bugs, updating the perk description text to reflect new behavior, and then handing that off to localization for translation — it's a ton of work, but we're up to it," Weisnewski wrote.
Lastly, the development team also announced that the Faction Rallies event is coming back next week on the 20th. Several new weapons are part of the reward packages for the event. As a bonus, the winning faction next week will have a special pulse rifle unique to their faction that they'll put on sale.
