Hot off the heels of being the #1 movie in America two weeks in row, and with a worldwide gross of $435 million (and counting), Amazon has wasted no time at all in taking preorders of the Wonder Woman Blu-ray. And sticking to the formula, they are offering a deluxe edition that includes a pretty cool statue along with the film. This, of course, is something they have done in the past for both Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.
Deluxe versions of films on home video are nothing new. Actually, tons more of them have been released lately in attempt to combat the plummeting home video market over the last few years. More and more people are switching to digital content, and frankly, less and less people like to have tons of stuff cluttering up their homes. While I still buy films, I must admit that even I have bought more digital than physical releases at this point.
These mega-editions work for video games, so I can't say I'm surprised that the film industry has really started to lean into these types sets. What does surprise me is that it took them this long.
The standard Wonder Woman Blu-ray/DVD/digital combo pack will be inside, along with a cool collector's box housing the statue itself. The box features wraparound art from the movie poster and looks at the statue itself. As for the statue, I like how it fits on the Wonder Woman logo base with the one leg hanging off, and the action pose they have her in is a nice change from the way others have done Diana statues in the past.
There is no release date for the film on home video yet, but preorders are available for this pack and other versions. Meanwhile, go see it in theaters again!
