Disney Officially Acquired Fox; Welcome to the House of Mouse Era
At midnight last night, The Walt Disney Company officially acquired 21st Century Fox and a number of Fox subsidiaries. As early as 9:30pm on March 19th, Disney's website reflected the finished deal with a brand-new header image, featuring notable Fox-owned characters alongside Disney faces.
The $71.3 BILLION dollar purchase included several Fox holdings, but did NOT include Fox News, parts of Fox Sports, and local Fox television affiliate stations which are now all lumped together in a brand new Fox business owned by Rupert Murdock called "Fox Corp." and includes former House Speaker Paul Ryan on the board. Yes, really.
Marvel Studios fans are no doubt jumping at the bit to find out when the previously-owned by Fox Marvel Comics properties may end up under Disney's banner; things like X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool coming to mind immediately.
As far as we know though, per Kevin Feige, it'll be awhile before any Fox properties become fully integrated into the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Some sites are claiming it'll happen as soon as 2021, but we're thinking maybe later than that.
Brace yourself, memes of so-and-so is now a Disney Princess are coming.
Unclear if Godzilla: King of the Monsters director Mike Dougherty is calling Ripley or the Queen a princess.
