How Will Black Lightning Deal With Having Daughters With Powers?
There are a lot of comic adaptations and superhero shows on television, but Black Lightning is going to be very unique in at least one specific way that hasn't really been talked about much yet. Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a person with powers and the father of two daughters who have powers. It's a dynamic similar to that of Henry Allen and Joe West with Barry Allen, but not quite from a place of understanding what having powers does to you. He won't know when the series debuts and when he does learn, it won't be easy for him to deal with. Executive producer Salim Akil talked about this dynamic to EW.com:
It's hard for any parent to see their children grow out of the nest. That's how Jefferson will react to seeing his daughters get their powers. In a way, he'll be a little fearful, because he understands what having powers is and what it means. The same way when parents see their children go off into the world without them, they're a little fearful because they understand what the world has in store for them. But you can't stop that. You have to let them grow.
Black Lightning will join the CW line-up midseason.
