Zoë Kravitz Reveals What Helped Her Portray Catwoman in The Batman

No matter how many incarnations of Batman that we see, there's an apparent audience that Warner Bros. is willing to tap into every few years. That said, the character has a repertoire of villains and vigilantes to incorporate. In the next installment (titled The Batman), we'll be receiving the newest take on the fan-favorite character Catwoman (Selina Kyle), played by Zoë Kravitz.

In a new interview with Empire Magazine, Kravitz opened up about what she utilized in finding her own individual style as Catwoman, to which she told the publication, "We watched cats and lions and how they fight," Kravitz notes, adding, "and talked about what is actually possible when you're my size, and Batman's so much stronger than me. What is my skill? It's being fast and tricky. So we did some really interesting floor work that incorporated different kinds of martial arts and capoeira and a kind of feline, dance-like movement."

As most of the Batman films have gravitated towards being origins stories, this new film will follow that same path, and Kravitz also explained that there's plenty to discover about her version of Selina. The actor also tells Empire, "This is an origin story for Selina, so it's the beginning of her figuring out who she is, beyond just someone trying to survive. I think there's a lot of space to grow, and I think we are watching her become what I'm sure will be the femme fatale."

Knowing that Catwoman is considered to be one of the best femme fatale characters to come out of comics (period), there's a large DC fanbase that's more invested in a Selina Kyle appearance than a standard Bruce Wayne/Batman return. For now, we'll just have to wait and see how big of a role Catwoman plays in the upcoming Batman flick. The Batman's official plot description teases, "In his second year of fighting crime, Batman uncovers corruption in Gotham City that connects to his own family while facing a serial killer known as the Riddler."

The Batman will be released in theaters on March 4, 2022.
