Aquaman To Lead His Own DC Legion Of Collectors Box
For a long time, Aquaman was somewhat of a joke. It was the punchline on everything from Robot Chicken to the Late Show with Craig Ferguson. The idea of an Aquaman movie seemed about as likely as Paul Reubens being cast as Superman. And then Zack Snyder came along and cast Jason Momoa as the amphibious hero. Now he's gotten popular enough that Funko is making him the theme of the next DC Legion of Collectors box.
Momoa built his name playing character like Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones and Conan. He looks nothing like the blond hero created by Mort Weisinger and Paul Norris in 1941. No orange shirt, green pants, or the seahorse that were made famous by the '70s cartoon. And Aquaman is now getting some respect.
Watch the Justice League trailers — he's a badass. They even make a, "I hear you talk to fish" joke, and he's still cool. He's getting his own film which co-stars Nicole Kidman, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, and Patrick Wilson. And people are excited to see the film next Christmas.
Flash and Green Lantern haven't even gotten their own DC Legion of Collectors box yet. People always talk about the trilogy of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman… and they try to add Green Lantern or Flash to that list, but maybe it will be Aquaman to rise up to that level. Okay, probably not — but it's cool to see him finally getting some respect.
