Forza And Porsche Have Partnered For A Six Year Deal That Will Include "Outside Of Game" Experiences
During the New York International Auto Show a little over a month ago, Porsche Motors announced a 6-year partnership with the Forza franchise. While that partnership isn't an exclusive deal, we didn't get a whole lot of detail on it at the time of the announcement. Which is pretty typical. Thanks to a recent interview with Dan Greenawalt of developer Turn 10 over on IGN, we have some more details for that deal coming our way, including a whole bunch of coy teasing.
In the interview, Greenawalt hinted that "What's exciting to me is not that we're going to deliver necessarily radically changed experiences in the game. It's that we're going to deliver experiences that cross over – game and real life – that I think are going to really surprise people."
Meanwhile, IGN's Luke Reilly took the time to point out that, "this is where Forza's esports focus comes into focus, with Greenawalt confirming over the last seasons of the Forza Racing Championship they've had over 30,000 participants. Last month the Forza team also held a live invitational Forza Racing Championship event at Microsoft's flagship New York store where 18 of ForzaRC's top racers competed for a shot at USD$25,000 in cash prizes. Next month, the final event of the third season of the Porsche-themed Forza Racing Championship will be hosted at Le Mans – during the world-famous 24-hour endurance race. Racers will jockey for a slice of a USD$100,000 prize pool and the winner will be awarded the trophy on the same podium the real-world drivers receive their trophies on."
The rest of the interview continues in that vein of carefully veiled hinting that we might be seeing an eSports event featuring Porsche cars in a Forza game sometime over the next six years. Because none of this is stated outright but merely hinted at, it's technically classed as a rumor, but it does fit in the vein of what Forza and Porsche have both done with their individual brands over the years, so I'd put a decent bit of stock behind this one. It's a pretty fantastic idea, and a very, very easy sell once you think about it. eSports are on the rise and Forza has done a decent job of making a name for itself as a great eSports vehicle.
